Trades Specific Student Engagement Techniques (TRAI 3004)
The Trades Specific Student Engagement Techniques course provides participants with the opportunity to integrate instructional strategies and techniques that reflect vocational contexts. Participants will investigate and apply motivational strategies in order to better engage their students in both the theoretical and practical components. Managing students and handling difficult situations in a respectful, ethical and professional manner will be addressed. Participants will use techniques and frameworks to help their students learn how to learn, think critically, and self-regulate.
Instructional strategies Instructional techniques Motivation theories Teaching and Learning theories and perspectives Thinking skills (critical thinking, creative thinking, metacognition) Classroom management Techniques to help adults learn how to learn (SQ4R study technique, visual tools, questioning techniques, note taking, etc.) Ethical decision making and frameworks
Prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR)
1. Actual curriculum products / artifacts created and used by the applicant in their workplace which are judged equivalent to course assignments.
2. A successful interview with the SIE Department Leader or delegate.
3. An essay that describes the development of their thinking on the themes, issues, and concepts in the course.
