Our Partnership Development Office (PDO) is Vancouver Community College’s key entrepreneurial focal point for the development and delivery of innovative, customized employment-focused training. We cultivate and steward a range of partnership initiatives that are informed by academic research, are proven models of partnership, and apply best practices developed from real-world situations.
We facilitate VCC partnership with industry and community in a variety of ways
VCC partnered with the British Columbia Government Employees Union (BCGEU), in order to deliver a communication program for its members. BCGEU convened union members and trainers for a needs analysis and provided input into the course development and delivery. VCC provided a skilled and flexible instructor who taught communication and intercultural skills in a large casino and hotel workplace which demands excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment.
VCC partners with the Pacific Immigrant Resources Society (PIRS) in order to develop and deliver an innovative program for Refugee and Immigrant Women entitled "Entry to Hospitality Careers for Women." The program funded by the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training, provides vocational training and other support to enable women with low levels of English to find entry level positions in restaurants, hotels and long-term care homes. The multiple supports for women include community based student recruitment, on-site childminding, and employer liaison for setting up practicum sites and job search support. PIRS provided these services at our downtown campus with VCC faculty teaching an overview to the sector, the vocational competencies, communication skills and job transition skills required to become employable in an entry-level position in twelve-weeks.
VCC has partnered with the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians of British Columbia in order to deliver a Fire Protection Technician course for immigrant engineers. The program taught four cohorts an overview to the sector and the competencies, communication skills and knowledge of the municipal building code required to become fully employable in a seven-week training course. VCC provided classrooms, curriculum development, and faculty.
